Here I Come – Ed Solo – Jungle Cakes
Beatport Thoughts:
With every Jungle Cakes release you know what to expect, consistency and quality! This release with the main man Ed Solo at the controls is no different. ‘Ganja Smuggling’ features all the elements you’ve come to know and love from the aforementioned consistency and quality. Tight, punchy drums, killer syncopated breaks, ragga stabs and vocals and of course a big phat rolling bassline!
‘Here I come’ is of course on a similar tip. Layers and layers of breaks keep you stepping and sliding into the wee hours and beyond. Big wompy filtered basslines lock down the groove and the ragga elements tie in perfectly to give the final result – A tune that is equally at home filling your speakers while you blaze one up or shaking the subs on a big rig while you have a proper dancefloor rinseout.
What else did you expect from the man like Ed Solo but blistering fire from every angle? “Here I Come” punches out a thumping bassline through vampy keys and on point junglist vibes courtesy of vintage Barrington Levy vocalisations. Included is a vocal-free mix for times when only straight up vibes will do. “Ganja Smuggling” brings up the other side with Eek A Mouse sampled over rounded off bubbling bass with huge soundsystem style. Larger than life and down to skank – you know that’s what Jungle Cakes do.
